Let me introduce you...
Frederick John Maudsley IV was raised in White Plains, NY and more recently lived with his wife and 3 children in Norwalk and Wilton CT. Freddy passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2021 at the age of 54. He was known in the local community for his passion for fitness and coaching in addition to his love for and generosity toward his family and friends. His dedication to local non-profit organizations who give needed assistance to disadvantaged people is the legacy we continue through the Frederick J. Maudsley Memorial Foundation, Inc. Freddy had many of his own personal challenges as he grew up, but his grit and resilience helped him to rise above statistics and become a successful trader on Wall Street, and then a business owner in his last years of life. He was a co-owner of Orange Theory Fitness studios in both Norwalk and Westport, CT and was thriving in his role as he helped others on their fitness journeys.
Those who were close to Freddy wrestle with the fact that he passed away so suddenly when he was the picture of health. Freddy’s cardiovascular disease was “silent” and not diagnosed until it was too late. Family and friends of Freddy are now vigilant to take care of heart health, get regular checkups and listen to their bodies when things feel “off”. We have to live without him in our lives, but we can keep his spirit alive as we carry on his legacy through generous giving and whole hearted living.
Pay it Forward
When you suddenly and unexpectedly lose a vibrant family member, you can either fold or rise as a response. We were driven to rise in a meaningful way.
Just weeks before Frederick passed away, he had reconnected with his hockey player roots. He had been in touch with the varsity hockey coach at White Plains High School in Westchester County, NY, his alma mater. He inquired about the needs of the program because he wanted to give back to a place that had great impact on his life. He never got to fulfill this desire, so we did it for him and in honor of him.
In 2022 we started a memorial fund from which we could give to causes and places that were important to Frederick. During his later years while living in Connecticut, he gave his time, finances and heart to causes that help community members going through tough times. He cooked and served meals at The Manna House (now Open Doors) in South Norwalk. He organized food collection drives at his churches (St. Matthew's Norwalk & Hope Church, Wilton) as well as through his business (Orange Theory Fitness) to benefit the South Norwalk Emergency Shelter (Open Doors) and Wilton Food Pantry. He served on the Board of Directors for Pivot Ministries, a men's recovery ministry in Bridgeport.
Fred had a heart for the disadvantaged. His family and friends now carry that spirit forward through fundraising events such as the Memorial Golf Outing and the Memorial 5K.
